Getting Started
A streak counts how many consecutive periods you've completed a habit without missing one. Each streak has a cadence (daily, weekly, or monthly) that determines the period length. Check in once per period to keep it alive.
Tap the check-in button on any streak card in your dashboard. You can also use Select mode to check in multiple streaks at once. A check-in counts for the current period in your configured timezone.
A streak card is on fire 🔥 when the current streak is at or above its highscore — every check-in sets a new personal best. It turns to ice ❄️ when the streak is at 0, because it is new or has just reset. In between, the card is neutral: the run is going but still below your best. If a period closes without a check-in or freeze, the streak resets to 0 — but your highscore is preserved forever.
Your highscore is the longest consecutive run you've ever achieved for a streak. It never goes down, even if your current streak resets. It's displayed on the streak card and in your stats.
Add tags to any streak to group them by category (e.g., “health”, “work”). Use the filter bar on the dashboard to show only streaks with specific tags, or filter by state (fire, ice, neutral), cadence, or checked-in status.
Yes. Drag cards on the dashboard to reorder them. The order is saved to your account and synced across devices. Note: if you downgrade from Pro, only your first 10 streaks (by order) remain active.
Archiving a streak removes it from your active dashboard but preserves its full history, stats, and highscore. You can restore it later. Deleting permanently removes the streak and all its data.
📅
Cadences
A daily streak requires one check-in per calendar day. The day runs from 00:00 to 23:59 in your configured timezone. A check-in at 23:55 counts for that day; at 00:05 it counts for the next day. If you miss an entire day without a freeze, the streak resets.
A weekly streak requires one check-in per week. The week starts at 00:00 on your first day of the week, in your timezone. By default that follows your timezone — Monday in most of the world, Sunday in the US, Canada, Japan and others, Saturday across much of the Middle East — and you can change it in Account → First day of week. Check in on any day of the week and the week is covered. Miss the entire week and your streak resets.
A monthly streak requires one check-in per calendar month. The period runs from the 1st to the last day of the month. Check in on any day and the month is covered. The period closes at the 1st of the next month at 00:00 in your timezone.
Pick the cadence that matches how often you want to do the habit. Daily is best for everyday habits (exercise, journaling). Weekly works for habits you do a few times a week but only need to confirm once (meal prep, cleaning). Monthly suits habits with longer cycles (monthly reviews, budget checks).
Yes — edit the streak and pick a new cadence. Your check-in history is kept, but the new period boundaries apply right away and the streak count is recalculated under them, so the current count may reset. EmberTrack warns you before saving the change.
❄️
Freezes
A freeze protects a streak for one period when you can't check in. It keeps your streak count alive without requiring you to do the habit. One freeze covers exactly one period — one day for daily, one week for weekly, or one month for monthly streaks.
It depends on your difficulty mode. Free accounts (and new ones) are on Hard: 3 freeze tokens at the start of each calendar month, banked up to 9. Pro accounts can switch mode in Account settings — Easy gives 10/month (bank 30), Medium 6 (bank 18), Hard 3 (bank 9), Extreme 0. The bank cap is always 3× the monthly grant. The refill happens the first time you open the app on or after the 1st of the month in your timezone.
Tap the ❄️ button on a streak card before the period closes. It appears while you haven't checked in for the current period and have at least one freeze left. This spends one freeze token and marks the current period as frozen. Use this when you know in advance you'll miss a day, week, or month. Freezing needs an internet connection.
Auto-freeze is an automatic safety net. When you miss a period, the system checks whether to spend a freeze on your behalf. It fires the next time you open the app (or any time your streaks are loaded). You can configure the minimum streak length required for auto-freeze in Account settings — the default is 30 periods. Set it to 0 to protect every streak, or turn it off entirely.
The threshold is the “Min streak to auto-freeze” number in Account → Auto-freeze. If a streak's current count is below that number, auto-freeze won't fire and the streak will break. For example, with a threshold of 30, a 5-day streak breaks on a miss, but a 35-day streak is automatically protected. Set to 0 = always protect. Set to Off = never auto-freeze.
If you miss two consecutive periods, the streak resets to 0 regardless of freezes. However, the freeze that was consumed for the first missed period is refunded — you get it back. This prevents wasting a freeze on a streak you've already abandoned.
No. If a freeze was already applied (manually or automatically), and you then use “check in yesterday” for that same period, the freeze entry is converted to a real check-in and the freeze token is returned to your balance. You can't stack both.
Frozen periods show as a distinct state in the streak's history calendar — separate from check-ins and misses. They count toward your consecutive streak but are visually distinguishable so you can see which periods were genuine check-ins vs. freezes.
🌍
Timezone & Timing
Every period boundary is evaluated at 00:00 in your configured timezone. A daily streak's “today” runs from midnight to midnight local time. Weekly periods start at 00:00 local on your first day of the week. Monthly periods start on the 1st at 00:00 local. All comparisons use UTC internally, but the boundary is always computed from your timezone setting.
If your timezone is America/New_York (UTC-5) and you check in at 11 PM Tuesday, that’s Wed 04:00 UTC. But the period key is still Tuesday because your local time says Tuesday. When the lazy reset runs Wednesday morning, the system sees your check-in fell before the Tuesday/Wednesday boundary (Wed 05:00 UTC = midnight ET). Tuesday is covered, Wednesday is still open.
If your timezone is Asia/Tokyo (UTC+9), your week starts on Sunday by default, so the week boundary is Sunday 00:00 JST = Saturday 15:00 UTC. A check-in on Saturday at 23:55 JST (Saturday 14:55 UTC) still belongs to last week — it falls before Sunday 00:00 JST. A check-in at Sunday 00:05 JST belongs to the new week, even though UTC still says Saturday.
If your timezone is Pacific/Honolulu (UTC-10), June 1 starts at June 1 10:00 UTC. A check-in at May 31 22:00 HST (June 1 08:00 UTC) still belongs to May — even though UTC says June 1 already. Your local time is what matters.
If your timezone is set incorrectly, period boundaries won't align with your real local time. For example, if you're in Berlin but your timezone is set to Los Angeles, your “day” won't reset at your midnight. Update your timezone in Account → Timezone. Changes take effect immediately for all future period evaluations.
No. Period boundaries are always computed from your IANA timezone (e.g., Europe/Berlin), which automatically handles DST transitions. The boundary shifts with the clock, so midnight stays midnight regardless of spring-forward or fall-back. Synthetic freeze entries are recorded at noon local time specifically to avoid DST edge cases at midnight.
Your streaks use your configured timezone, not your device's current timezone. If you travel from New York to Tokyo, your daily reset still happens at midnight New York time unless you change the setting. For short trips, keeping your home timezone is usually simplest. For permanent moves, update the timezone in Account.

Forgiveness Window
If you did the habit but forgot to check in, you can back-fill the missed period within a limited window. Use the ⏪ button on the streak card — it is labelled “Check in yesterday” for daily, “Check in last week” for weekly, and “Check in last month” for monthly streaks. It is shown until you check in for the current period, so back-fill first. Back-filling needs an internet connection.
Daily streaks: 24 hours after the period ends. Weekly streaks: 48 hours after the week ends (the first two days of the new week). Monthly streaks: 7 days after the month ends. Once the window closes, the period can no longer be back-filled.
You missed Monday. Tuesday 00:00 is when Monday's period ended. At Tuesday 10:00 (10 hours elapsed) you can still back-fill Monday — that's within 24 hours. By Wednesday 01:00 (25 hours elapsed) it's too late.
Say your week starts on Monday and you missed last week entirely. The new week started Monday 00:00. On Tuesday at 12:00 (36 hours in) you can still back-fill last week. By Wednesday 09:00 (57 hours in) the 48-hour window has closed.
You missed April. May started May 1 at 00:00. On May 6 at 12:00 (5.5 days in) you can still back-fill April. By May 8 at 12:00 (7.5 days in) the 7-day window has closed.
They're independent rescue mechanisms. Back-fill means you actually did the habit — no freeze consumed. If an auto-freeze was already applied to that period, using back-fill converts the freeze to a real check-in and refunds the freeze token. You can't have both a freeze and a check-in for the same period.

Account & Billing
Free supports up to 10 active streaks on Hard difficulty (3 freezes/month, bank up to 9). Pro costs CHF 2.95/month or CHF 29.95/year and gives unlimited streaks, a choice of difficulty mode (Easy/Medium/Hard/Extreme = 10/6/3/0 freezes per month, bank always 3×), the full emoji set, and priority support. Every new account gets 14 days of Pro free on sign-up, no card needed. Both tiers get all cadences, timezone-aware resets, sharing, and the installable web app.
Yes, anytime: Account → Subscription → Manage subscription. You keep Pro access until the end of your current billing period. No questions asked. If you have more than 10 active streaks when you downgrade, only the first 10 (by order) remain active — the rest are automatically archived.
Set a reminder time in Account → Daily reminder, then switch on email and/or push reminders — both are off until you turn them on. You'll get a reminder at your chosen time if you still have streaks to check in. Each channel can be enabled or disabled separately.
Yes. Account → Your data → Download my data gives you a JSON file with your account info, streaks, and every check-in. Each streak's history calendar also shows every check-in, freeze, and miss.
When a check-in hits a milestone, the app celebrates with a toast tuned to the streak's cadence. You also get a push notification at 7, 14, 30, 60, 90, 100, 180, and 365 periods (on devices where push is enabled). If you surpass your personal best without hitting one of those, you get a personal-best notification instead. Milestone emails are off by default — switch them on in Email preferences (Account → Daily reminder → All notification preferences).
When a streak of 7 or more periods resets to 0, you receive an email and push notification. This only fires once per calendar day per streak. You can opt out of the email or the push in Email preferences (Account → Daily reminder → All notification preferences).
